The Baby Show Stand Builders: ExCeL Logistics, the Parent Buyer, and What Wins Sales
The Baby Show is the UK's largest baby and parenting event, running several times a year — including at ExCeL London and Olympia London, as well as the NEC Birmingham. It brings expecting and new parents together with the brands behind prams, car seats, nursery furniture, feeding, clothing and toys, in a hands-on, try-before-you-buy environment with expert talks and a famous buggy testing track.
Unlike a trade show, this audience buys on the day, so the brief is experience plus demonstration plus sale: let parents touch and test the product, help them choose with confidence, and make buying (or ordering for delivery) easy. Big-ticket items like prams and car seats are chosen in person, so a stand that lets people try properly and feel looked after is what converts a browse into a sale.
Because the audience is consumers — often nervous first-time parents — warmth, clarity and a calm, family-friendly space matter as much as the product itself.
For a baby or parenting brand that means a stand built to be tried and bought: hands-on display, room to demonstrate, and an easy, warm sale. The brands that sell well design the experience and the purchase together.
Building at ExCeL London: the rules that shape your stand
ExCeL is a pillar-free hall with around 10m of clear internal height, but your stand does not get all of it. For space-only stands the working height limit at most ExCeL shows is 6m, and anything ExCeL classes as a complex structure — double-deckers, heavy suspended elements, long unsupported spans — triggers a formal sign-off you need to budget time for, not just money.
Complex designs must be submitted with engineering calculations applying a minimum factor of safety of 1.5. An independent structural engineer reviews the drawings and, if satisfied, issues a Certificate of Structural Adequacy at design stage, which releases your Certificate to Build; the same engineer inspects the stand on site during build-up before you can open. Miss a calculation or submit late and you do not build.
Overhead rigging is controlled tightly: all primary rigging to the ceiling is installed exclusively by ExCeL's own team, ordered through ExCeL's webshop and confirmed around 28 days before tenancy for the advance rate. Lightweight static items hang from drop wires up to 50kg; heavier loads are separate, costlier orders.
The smaller rules catch people out too: platforms above 170mm need ramped, accessible access; solid walls along an open gangway edge are generally not allowed; only water-based paint may be used on site; and every structure must be fully self-supporting. We design to all of this from the first sketch and submit the venue paperwork, so the build you approve is the build that opens.
What a winning Baby Show stand needs
The strongest stands invite parents to handle and test the product, make choosing easy, and feel welcoming rather than pressured. We design open, hands-on display where prams, seats and gear can be tried, clear and reassuring signage, space for staff to advise and demonstrate, and a calm point to complete a sale or arrange delivery — with storage and stock kept tidy out of sight.
We design the stand to feel warm and family-friendly, because this is a consumer audience making emotional, considered purchases, and a welcoming, easy-to-navigate stand converts far better than a hard-sell one with new and expecting parents.
We also plan restocking and tidiness across the weekend, because a consumer stand that looks picked-over or cluttered late on sells far less than the inviting, well-stocked one a parent saw earlier.
Designing for try-before-you-buy
Parents come to test in person what they can't judge online — how a pram folds, how a car seat fits, how a chair feels — so demonstration and hands-on trial are the heart of the stand. We design the space so products can be tried safely and easily, staff can demonstrate without the stand jamming at peak, and a buyer can move smoothly from trying to buying.
We plan for buggies, prams and pushchairs in motion, and for the show's testing features, so your products are easy to demonstrate and the stand handles a busy, family-filled weekend floor without bottlenecks.
We also think about tired parents and long days: somewhere to pause, clear sightlines and an unintimidating layout, because a stand that feels calm and welcoming holds a family longer and sells more.
We also make completing a purchase or arranging home delivery quick and clear, because a parent who has decided shouldn't have to queue or puzzle over how to buy — friction at that moment loses the sale.
What a Baby Show stand costs
A turnkey stand typically runs roughly £3,950–£12,500 for a compact custom build, £12,500–£28,000 for a mid-size build with strong demo and selling space, and £28,000 and up for a flagship build. The quote is turnkey — design, build, graphics, lighting, delivery to ExCeL, install, dismantle and the venue paperwork are all included — and the demo space, hands-on display and selling fit-out move the number most.
Because the value is in sales made and orders taken on the day, the spend that pays back is in an inviting, easy-to-try, easy-to-buy stand — a warm consumer experience converts more than a corporate-looking display here.
Stand sizes and layouts
Stands run from compact spaces for single-product and boutique brands up to large builds for major nursery and parenting names. The layout balances hands-on display and demonstration with a calm spot to advise and sell, so we keep products tryable and the buying conversation unhurried. Open and corner positions help a consumer brand catch a busy, browsing family audience.
Whatever the size, we keep the stand open, safe and easy to move around with a buggy or bump, because a family audience rewards a welcoming, navigable stand and avoids a cramped or intimidating one.
Open positions also let parents approach and try products without feeling boxed in, which matters a great deal with a pram-pushing, often pregnant audience.
Getting into ExCeL: build-up timing
ExCeL runs to a tight build-up schedule, and a consumer stand with demos and stock needs planning. We confirm your space-only window, plan access and delivery for products and stock, order power and any services through ExCeL's contractors before the deadlines (late orders attract surcharges), and crate to a slot that lands the stand finished, stocked and demo-ready before the doors open to the public.
We make sure the stand is safe and ready for a family crowd — stable display, clear circulation, nothing to trip a pushchair — because a consumer show is judged the moment the public walks in.
Reusing your stand between editions
The Baby Show runs several times a year across London and Birmingham, so a modular, reusable stand is excellent value for a brand exhibiting at more than one edition. We store the core, refresh the graphics and product display for each show, and keep your demo layout and services plan on file — so you arrive with a current, welcoming stand rather than a rebuild each time.
And because the value is in sales and orders taken on the day, a warm, well-built stand that travels cleanly between editions keeps converting across the year without a rebuild each time.
Next step for your The Baby Show stand
Send us your space size, hall position and goals for The Baby Show. You'll get a custom 3D concept and a fixed, all-inclusive quote within 48 hours — designed to ExCeL's rules, with structural sign-off built into the timeline if your design needs it. We build in-house and install at ExCeL London, so the stand you approve in the rendering is the stand that opens.
We also design and build exhibition stands for other major UK shows — see the full show calendar for consumer & lifestyle and beyond, all with the same in-house team, fixed all-in pricing and full venue paperwork.
