London Build Expo Stand Builders: A Construction Crowd Judges Your Build

London Build Expo is the UK's largest construction and design show, organised by Oliver Kinross. For 2026 it makes a significant move — from Olympia to ExCeL London on 25–26 November, co-located with the sustainability event elementalLONDON — and is expected to draw 45,000+ visitors and 650+ exhibitors across multiple halls, with hundreds of CPD speakers and a 'Meet the Buyers' programme featuring procurement teams from Tier 1 contractors such as Laing O'Rourke, Skanska and Balfour Beatty.

There is a particular pressure exhibiting to this audience: the people walking your stand build things for a living. Architects, engineers, contractors and developers read a stand the way they read a building — finish quality, materials and structural honesty all register instantly. A stand with visible cheap joins or a flimsy back wall undercuts the exact credibility a construction supplier is there to sell. The build quality of your stand is part of your pitch.

Building at ExCeL: the rules that shape your {show} stand

ExCeL is a pillar-free hall with around 10m of clear internal height, but your stand does not get all of it. For space-only stands the working height limit at most ExCeL shows is 6m, and anything ExCeL classes as a complex structure — double-deckers, heavy suspended elements, long unsupported spans — triggers a formal sign-off you need to budget time for, not just money.

Here is how that process actually runs, and why using a builder who has done it matters. Complex designs must be submitted with engineering calculations applying a minimum factor of safety of 1.5. An independent structural engineer reviews the drawings for ExCeL and the local authority and, if satisfied, issues a Certificate of Integrity at design stage — which releases your Certificate to Build. The same engineer inspects the stand on site during build-up and issues a second Certificate of Integrity at construction stage before you can open. Miss a calculation or submit late and you do not build.

Overhead rigging is controlled tightly: all primary rigging to the ceiling is installed exclusively by ExCeL's own team — you cannot fix anything to the building yourself. Banner and lighting rigs are ordered through ExCeL's webshop and confirmed around 28 days before tenancy for the advance rate, with the organiser's permission to rig required first. Lightweight static items hang from drop wires up to 50kg; heavier loads or chain hoists are separate, costlier orders, and trim heights are standardised so no stand flies its banner higher than its neighbours.

The smaller rules catch people out too: platforms above 170mm need ramped, accessible access and a clear colour contrast at the level change; solid walls along an open gangway edge are generally not allowed; only water-based paint may be used on site; and every structure must be fully self-supporting. We design to all of this from the first sketch and submit the venue paperwork, so the build you approve is the build that opens.

Designing for a construction and design audience

What works for this crowd: genuine material samples and finishes they can touch, not just printed images; a layout that lets engineers and procurement teams have a proper technical conversation, with a real meeting table rather than a perch; product or system demonstrations where the mechanism is visible; and a confident, well-built structure that demonstrates your own quality standards. With elementalLONDON co-located, sustainability credentials — reusable stand systems, recycled materials, low-waste build — also resonate strongly here.

Custom or modular for London Build?

Construction suppliers often exhibit at several shows a year (London Build, UK Construction Week, regional events), which makes a reusable modular system genuinely cost-effective — and on-brand for a sustainability-minded audience. One-off or flagship presences are better served by a full custom build. We build both, and can design a modular system that reconfigures across your show calendar.

What a London Build stand costs

Indicative turnkey pricing: an enhanced shell scheme or compact custom build runs roughly £3,950–£12,500; a mid-size custom build with material displays, AV and a proper meeting area runs £12,500–£28,000; and a flagship or double-decker stand with premium finishes and hospitality runs £28,000 and up. Every quote is fixed, all-inclusive and includes a free 3D concept.

Meet the Buyers and the procurement angle

London Build's 'Meet the Buyers' programme puts procurement teams from Tier 1 contractors — the likes of Laing O'Rourke, Skanska and Balfour Beatty — on the floor looking for suppliers. If those conversations are your goal, your stand needs a proper seated meeting space and somewhere to show certifications, case studies and technical specs credibly, not just brochures on a rack. We design the stand around the conversation you most need to have, whether that's procurement, specification or distribution.

Stand sizes, layouts and the sustainability angle

Construction exhibitors take everything from 6–9m² shell schemes to large space-only plots for working demonstrations. With elementalLONDON co-located, a visibly sustainable stand — a reusable modular system, recycled or low-carbon materials, minimal single-use build — is both on-message and cost-effective across a multi-show year. We can design a system that reconfigures between London Build, UK Construction Week and your regional shows, then store and refresh it, so each appearance is a graphics change rather than a fresh build.

Demonstrations, samples and the working-stand approach

London Build's audience is technical — architects, contractors, specifiers and local-authority buyers — and they respond to evidence, not gloss. The strongest stands here behave like a working showroom: real material samples they can handle, a product demonstration they can watch, and clear, specification-grade information rather than brochure language. We design for that, with sturdy display for samples, space for a live demo, and a layout that lets a specifier have a focused technical conversation without shouting over the aisle.

Heavier exhibits are common at a construction show, so we plan loadings, floor protection and safe handling into the build from the start, and finish robustly enough to survive a hands-on crowd. The goal is a stand that signals competence in the first three seconds — because that is exactly what a construction buyer is scanning for. We will also advise where a working demonstration needs guarding, signage or a managed viewing line so it stays safe and compliant on a busy floor.

Reusing your stand across the UK construction circuit

Most London Build exhibitors also appear at other UK construction and built-environment shows through the year. We build on a reusable modular core and store it between events, refreshing graphics for each show, so the same investment works across the circuit rather than being written off after two days. Recycled and low-waste materials are specified where the design allows, which also helps the environmental credentials a construction-sector audience increasingly expects to see on the stand itself. Because the structural drawings and method statements are already prepared and on file, returning to a venue we have built at before also shortens the approval lead time for your next show.

On-site support and project management

Every stand comes with a dedicated project manager from kickoff to breakdown, and our crew is on call during show hours for graphic touch-ups, electrical issues or last-minute changes; larger stands get a dedicated on-site lead. Because we pre-build and inspect in-house before delivery to the venue, the on-site install is the replication of an already-approved build rather than first-time assembly under the clock — which is what keeps your opening morning calm.

Next step for your London Build stand

Send your stand size and the products or systems you want to demonstrate. You'll get a 3D concept and a fixed all-inclusive quote within 48 hours — built in-house to a finish your construction audience will respect, and installed at ExCeL to the venue's space-only and rigging rules.

We also design and build exhibition stands for other major UK shows — see the full show calendar for construction & built environment and beyond, all with the same in-house team, fixed all-in pricing and full venue paperwork.

01

Rigging is ordered through ExCeL — and the clock starts early

Anything suspended over your stand goes through ExCeL's official rigging webshop, and orders are due roughly 28 days before build-up; drop wires are capped at 50kg each. Leave it late and you either lose the hang or pay rush rates. On any design with a hanging element we file the rigging order the day it's signed off.

02

Space-only height runs to 6 metres

Space-only stands at ExCeL can build to 6m, which is what makes double-deck and tall feature towers possible here. Anything structurally complex needs structural calculations plus a Certificate of Structural Adequacy and a Certificate to Build submitted ahead of the show. We prepare these in-house.

03

Platforms over 170mm need an edge ramp

Any raised floor above 170mm has to be ramped for accessibility. It's a small rule that changes your footprint, so we design the ramp in from the start rather than losing usable stand space.

04

Finish off-site — only water-based paint on the floor

ExCeL permits only water-based paint for touch-ups in the hall, so finishes are completed and inspected at our workshop and the on-site crew assembles rather than fabricates.

Common mistakes, in order of frequency

  1. An oversized logo on the back wall that crowds out the one-line value proposition a passer-by actually reads in three seconds.
  2. The same graphic on the front and side panels of an inline stand — the side panel is your aisle-facing billboard and the most wasted surface at most shows.
  3. A freestanding sign or counter at the very front that blocks the sightline into the stand and stops people stepping in.
  4. Under-staffing at peak — you need someone working the aisle separately from whoever is running meetings.
  5. A fully enclosed meeting room on a small stand: it eats a quarter of the floor and leaves the rest cramped. Under ~30 sqm a semi-open nook usually works better.
  6. Leaving rigging and electrical orders until after the venue deadlines and paying avoidable surcharges.

20 Questions Exhibitors Ask About London Build Expo Stands

Real answers with real numbers. Click any question to expand.

Who builds stands at London Build Expo?

London Exhibition Company builds turnkey custom and modular stands for London Build Expo at ExCeL — material displays, demo areas and meeting spaces, built in-house to a finish a construction audience respects, with full venue paperwork handled.

Where is London Build Expo held in 2026?

London Build Expo moves to ExCeL London for 2026 (25–26 November), co-located with elementalLONDON — having previously been held at Olympia. We deliver and install to ExCeL's build-up and rigging rules.

How much does a London Build Expo stand cost?

Roughly £3,950–£12,500 for an enhanced shell scheme or compact custom build, £12,500–£28,000 for a mid-size custom build, and £28,000+ for a flagship or double-decker stand. Fixed and all-inclusive with a free 3D concept.

Can you build a sustainable / reusable stand?

Yes — with elementalLONDON co-located, sustainability resonates here. We build reusable modular systems and use recycled materials and low-waste construction, then store and refresh the stand for your next show.

What are ExCeL's stand height and structure rules?

Space-only stands are typically limited to 6m; complex or double-deck structures need engineering calculations and a Certificate of Integrity from an independent engineer; rigging is installed by ExCeL's team. We manage the full submission.

When is London Build Expo and how early should I book?

The next edition is 25–26 November 2026 at ExCeL. Book 8–12 weeks ahead for floor position and design time; modular builders reusing a system should confirm graphics refresh earlier.

What's included in the price?

Every quote is turnkey: a custom 3D concept, in-house build and pre-build inspection, full graphics production, delivery to ExCeL, certified install and dismantle, all ExCeL health-and-safety and contractor paperwork, and a dedicated project manager from kickoff to breakdown — on one invoice.

Can I customise a design from your gallery?

Yes. Pick any base design and change graphics, colours, finishes, monitor placement, counter styles, accessories and meeting-room layout. Your final 3D rendering reflects every change before production starts.

Can I add AV, monitors and tech to the stand?

Yes. Monitors, touchscreen kiosks, tablet stands, charging points and audio are all standard add-ons included in your flat quote — no separate AV vendor to coordinate.

Do you provide on-site support during the show?

Yes. Our team is on call during London Build Expo show hours for anything from graphic touch-ups to electrical issues, and larger stands include a dedicated on-site project lead.

What happens to the stand after the show?

Our crew dismantles and removes the stand, and we can store reusable elements for your next edition and refresh the graphics — so you are not paying to rebuild from scratch each time.

What is your in-house pre-build guarantee?

Every stand is fully assembled and inspected at our facility before delivery to ExCeL. We send preview photos for approval, then it ships — so the on-site install is the replication of an approved build, not first-time assembly on show day.

Do you build double-decker stands?

Yes. Where the London Build Expo floor plan and budget allow, a double-decker doubles your footprint and adds first-floor hospitality. At ExCeL a two-storey stand needs engineering sign-off, which we manage end to end.

Do you work with international exhibitors?

Yes. As part of a group operating across the USA, UAE and Europe, we support international brands exhibiting at London Build Expo with one point of contact, a consistent design language and full UK venue and logistics handling.

How do I get started?

Send your London Build Expo stand space, dates and any design preferences. You'll receive a custom 3D rendering and a fixed, all-inclusive quote within 48 hours — no obligation.

Do you handle electrics, lighting and power?

Yes. We design the lighting scheme and order power, rigging and connections from ExCeL's appointed contractor, included in your flat quote — you don't manage a separate electrical supplier.

Do you offer rental or shell-scheme upgrade stands?

Yes. Alongside full custom builds we offer fixed-price rental and shell-scheme upgrades for London Build Expo — fast, cost-effective, and dressed to look bespoke. Ideal for first-time or budget-conscious exhibitors.

Can you build a sustainable, reusable stand?

Yes. We build reusable modular systems and use recycled and low-waste materials, then store and refresh the stand between editions — better for budget and for your sustainability reporting.

Can you build a private meeting room into the stand?

Yes. A semi-enclosed meeting or consultation space is one of the most useful features at London Build Expo; we design it into the layout with the right acoustics, seating and storage.

What size stand do I need?

It depends on your goals at London Build Expo — a 9-18m² stand suits a focused presence, 18-50m² gives room for demos and meetings, and 50m²+ supports a flagship or double-decker build. Tell us your objectives and we'll recommend a size and layout.
