Hardware Pioneers Max Stand Builders: ExCeL Logistics, an Engineering Audience, and What Wins Designs-In
Hardware Pioneers Max is the UK's largest event for electronics, embedded systems and edge-AI engineering, held each June at ExCeL London. It draws hardware and embedded engineers, CTOs, R&D directors and product managers to the component makers, tool vendors and platform providers building the next generation of connected devices — across semiconductors, sensors, RF, power, FPGA, IoT and AI hardware.
This is a deeply technical audience, and that defines the brief: they come to see real technology, evaluate it against real engineering problems, and talk to people who can answer hard questions. So the stand has to demonstrate — show the board, the module, the demo running — say precisely what you do and which engineering problem you solve, and give your specialists somewhere to go deep with a prospect.
Marketing gloss does little here; a working demo and a knowledgeable engineer on the stand do almost everything. We design around that reality.
For a component maker, tool vendor or platform provider that means designing for a technical buyer who is evaluating as they walk: prove the technology fast, then give an engineer somewhere to go deep. The vendors who get designed in here lead with a working demo and staff it with people who can answer the hard questions.
Building at ExCeL London: the rules that shape your stand
ExCeL is a pillar-free hall with around 10m of clear internal height, but your stand does not get all of it. For space-only stands the working height limit at most ExCeL shows is 6m, and anything ExCeL classes as a complex structure — double-deckers, heavy suspended elements, long unsupported spans — triggers a formal sign-off you need to budget time for, not just money.
Complex designs must be submitted with engineering calculations applying a minimum factor of safety of 1.5. An independent structural engineer reviews the drawings and, if satisfied, issues a Certificate of Structural Adequacy at design stage, which releases your Certificate to Build; the same engineer inspects the stand on site during build-up before you can open. Miss a calculation or submit late and you do not build.
Overhead rigging is controlled tightly: all primary rigging to the ceiling is installed exclusively by ExCeL's own team, ordered through ExCeL's webshop and confirmed around 28 days before tenancy for the advance rate. Lightweight static items hang from drop wires up to 50kg; heavier loads are separate, costlier orders.
The smaller rules catch people out too: platforms above 170mm need ramped, accessible access; solid walls along an open gangway edge are generally not allowed; only water-based paint may be used on site; and every structure must be fully self-supporting. We design to all of this from the first sketch and submit the venue paperwork, so the build you approve is the build that opens.
What a winning electronics stand needs
The stands that land with engineers lead with working hardware, not a banner. We position demo stations so a passer-by sees the technology in operation, build in clean, well-lit space to display boards, modules and reference designs, and — critically — scope power and connectivity with real headroom, because a floor full of live electronics demos punishes a stand that planned its electrics to the bare minimum. A demo that drops out in front of an engineer does lasting damage.
We state, plainly and technically, what you do and for whom, so the right engineers and decision-makers stop and the rest self-select out — a technical audience values a precise message over a broad one.
Designing for technical depth
Engineers don't buy on a slogan; they want to understand how it works and whether it fits their design. So we design a clear path from a thirty-second demo hook to a seated, technical conversation, with somewhere your specialists can sit down with a prospect, sketch on something, and talk specifics. For products that get designed in over weeks, we make the datasheets, samples and reference materials easy to take away and easy to remember.
Credibility with this crowd comes from demonstrable proof — a live measurement, a working reference design, a real performance figure — so we give that evidence room rather than filling the stand with copy.
What a Hardware Pioneers Max stand costs
A turnkey stand typically runs roughly £3,950–£12,500 for a compact custom build with a demo station, £12,500–£28,000 for a mid-size build with several demo points and a meeting area, and £28,000 and up for a flagship build. The quote is turnkey — design, build, AV and demo mounting, lighting, delivery to ExCeL, install, dismantle and the rigging and electrical paperwork are all included — and the number of demos, the power and connectivity, and bespoke display move the number most.
The spend that pays back here is in reliable, well-presented demos and the people to talk them through, not in spectacle — engineers reward substance.
What you don't pay extra for matters to a budget-watching team too: the figure is genuinely all-in, so material handling, electrical add-ons and last-minute rigging are already accounted for, leaving your engineers free to focus on the demo.
Stand sizes and layouts
Stands run from compact spaces for start-ups and niche component vendors up to large builds for major semiconductor and tool companies. The layout balances demo visibility with technical-conversation space, so we put the live hardware where the aisle sees it and keep a calmer seated area for the design-in discussion. Open sides help a two-day technical show by multiplying the routes your demo is seen from.
Whatever the size, we light and present even small hardware well, because a clean, well-lit demo makes a component look like the engineered, premium choice it is.
And because an engineer remembers a demo they watched run far longer than a brochure they were handed, a reliable, well-placed demonstration is usually the single best use of stand space at this show.
Getting into ExCeL: build-up timing
Hardware Pioneers Max sits in a busy June run at ExCeL, so material-handling, rigging and the electrical contractor book up early and late orders attract surcharges. We confirm your space-only window, order rigging at the advance rate (around 28 days out), coordinate power and data for live demos with the appointed contractor, and crate to a slot that lands the stand inside its window with the demos tested and working before doors open.
We design the electrical and data layout around your live hardware from the start, because reliable power and connectivity are far cheaper to plan in than to add on site — and far less risky in front of an engineering audience.
Reusing your stand between editions
The show is annual and most vendors return, so we build on a modular core, store it and refresh the graphics and demo configuration for each year's products. That keeps cost down and lets the stand track a fast-moving roadmap, and we keep your demo, power and data plan and contractor orders on file so each year's build starts from a known, working setup.
And because the technology moves fast, a stored modular core lets you change the demo and the message every year while keeping the credible, well-built shell that an engineering audience responds to.
Next step for your Hardware Pioneers Max stand
Send us your space size, hall position and goals for Hardware Pioneers Max. You'll get a custom 3D concept and a fixed, all-inclusive quote within 48 hours — designed to ExCeL's rules, with structural sign-off built into the timeline if your design needs it. We build in-house and install at ExCeL London, so the stand you approve in the rendering is the stand that opens.
We also design and build exhibition stands for other major UK shows — see the full show calendar for technology, data & digital and beyond, all with the same in-house team, fixed all-in pricing and full venue paperwork.
